Saint-Sauveur-Lendelin is located in the heart of the country of Coutances, a rural territory marked by bocage. The diocese of Coutances was structured in the fifth century. Following a Romanesque church of the 9th century, the St. Lawrence church rises on an ancient site of worship established along the Roman way Alauna-Cosedia. There is therefore a religious continuity of over a thousand years. At the beginning of the 13th century, it was one of the churches that the Abbey of Lessay gave to Bishop Hugues of Morville. Popular piety is marked by the holy healers: Saint Laurent, patron invoked against burns, Saint Blaise for sore throats, and Saint Barbe, represented by a 15th century statue.
In 1856, the church was described as one of the largest in the country of Coutances, which yet had more than 150 rural churches. Its nave of five spans, flanked by two sides, forms a church hall, a rare type in the Channel. The medieval nave dates back to the 13th–14th centuries, the fortified bell tower of the 14th century massive, powerful, endowed with a home of the Custos is classified as Historical Monument. The interior offers a rich protected furniture (Child's Life, Christ on cross, stalls, pulpit, baptismal fonts, statues), luminous volumes and a preserved medieval nave.
Today, the church belongs to the diocese of Coutances et Avranches, within the parish of Saint-Jean-Eudes in Lendelin, and hosts occasional Sunday Masses, as well as the usual celebrations of Christian life. It remains one of the most beautiful rural churches in Central Manche. The current restoration project concerns the covers of the nave, transept and choir.
